One brand I really fell in love with this year was Costa Brazil: a sustainable beauty line founded by Francisco Costa. All of their products are sustainably sourced, environmentally responsible, vegan, no animal testing, free of parabens, phthalates, PEGs, silicones, sulfates, gluten, mineral oil and artificial colorants, and are dermatologist tested. This summer, I received an email about their iconic Aroma fragrance. The email called it “the fragrance we’ve been waiting for,” going on to describe it as “complex, green, and a little smoky, it also has floral and citrus notes that we found truly intoxicating. As the fragrance dried down on the skin, combining with each individual’s chemistry, it took on a quality unique to that person and evolved to smell different on each of us.“
Needless to say, I ordered the fragrance on the spot, having never smelled it, knowing I was taking a bit of a risk as perfume can be such a gamble: it depends so much on your body chemistry; what smells great on one person may not work on another. I’m so glad I did as it has since become one of my absolute favorite fragrances. It’s a little bit woodsy and smoky. But (as described above) it blends in floral and citrus notes to keep the fragrance from being too masculine. An obsession was born. I then went on to try their body wash. (It’s heaven, makes you feel like you are showering in the rain forest.) Don’t even get me started on their candle. It’s incredible!
