Charleston Photos + Video!

This trip to Charleston, I made you a little video! I know I go on and on and on about how much I absolutely love the city. Photos are great and all but I thought that a video would be a great way to really show you some of my favorite parts of the city. I’m showing you my favorite restaurants, shops, and of course the best cupcake (but we already talked about that yesterday!!)

There are also a few fun little appearances from my parents who were really good sports about being filmed. We had so much fun! I hope you enjoy it… I really love making these! And while I have you, I updated my Charleston Travel Guide with a few more recommendations (and everything mentioned in this post/video.) I like having everything organized in one place for you… I get emails (literally!) every week from those of you who are planning a trip and looking for recommendations, so I take these guides very seriously!

(And if you like the video, you can subscribe to my channel here to get notified of future videos… my goal is to post a new video for you every week!)

I absolutely loved my hotel, 86 Cannon. Truly can’t say enough good things about it. It’s the cutest place in an up and coming part of town (right near all of my favorite restaurants). They only have five rooms but each one has so much character. I loved that it was quaint and cute but also had all the amenities (a big fluffy king sized bed, a really nice bathroom, and even my favorite coffeemaker – the Nespresso Vertuoline, which I have in my own apartment and love).

Every morning they have a delicious breakfast (fresh berries, yogurt, and pastries + biscuits from local makers), and every evening they’ll make you a cheese plate and serve you a glass of wine. The owners, Marion and Lori Hawkins, are so charming and lovely, annnnd they have two adorable dogs. I was in heaven and would definitely stay there again.

Outfit Details: Talbots Cashmere Sweater, Cashmere Scarf, Quilted Bag, Jeans, and Heels (all c/o)

While I have you, jussst for the record… I paid for my stay at 86 Cannon with my own money. I hate that I have to say that (shouldn’t it be the other way around?) I am lucky enough to be invited to stay at a lot of hotels for free (free, meaning trading a stay for blog/instagram coverage… nothing’s ever truly “free”), and will always make that very clear in my posts if that is the case. In all honesty, I prefer to book hotels with my own money. This is for two reasons: first and foremost, I always want to be really honest with you, and I don’t want to be beholden to the hotel to post about it if I have a bad stay. The second is that I am a little bit of a hotel snob and have a running list of all the places in my favorite cities that I want to stay. I’d had my eye on 86 Cannon for a while now, ever since seeing it in Julia’s Charleston guide.

So unless I know that a place is going to be really amazing, I say no to the free stays. They’re never actually “free,” anyways. I put a lot of time and energy into posts, videos, and travel guides and I want the places I choose to cover to be really cool and special! (And if something is comped, I’ll always tell you that!)

LOVE THESE PUPS!

Loved the video! Your parents are adorable! Still have Charleston on my travel list. Sometime this year….sigh. Question; I have some fine Jewelry I want to sell. Do you know how best to do that, to get the best value? I also have some vintage costume pieces ( I break out, I can only wear, gold, gold filled and sterling)does your friend ( Candy shop vintage) buy from individuals? I just looking for easy minimal fuss. Thank you and such a fun post!

    • Aw thank you Cy!!!

For fine jewelry, maybe try The Real Real? You could sell at Croghan’s like my mom did… but you’d have to go there!!! Deirdre doesn’t buy from individuals for the costume stuff – maybe try listing it on eBay?
