Ahhhhh the Guggenheim. To me, there are very few spots that are more iconic “New York.” It’s located all the way up on the Upper East Side at 89th street right across from Central Park. The cylindrical building itself was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and actually turned 60 this year! While it was initially imagined as a “temple of the spirit,” it reminds me of a giant shell. The gallery is in the shape of a ramp so you can walk the whole museum in one continuous spiral. It’s one of my favorite places in the city and incredibly relaxing to walk! (And right now there’s a super cool Basquiat exhibit on the top floor!)
When AAA reached out to me about partnering on a post, I was like, “um no, I don’t drive or have a car!” As it turns out, they’d done their research and knew all that. There’s actually so much more to AAA than just road side assistance… it’s also great for city dwellers, especially if you travel a lot like I do. But one of the (most important, if you ask me) perks is discounted tickets to the Guggenheim – that caught my attention for sure!
AAA member benefits include discounts at tons of incredible retailers (Thrive Market is included).
You can get discounted tickets to Broadway shows, movie tickets, and museums like the Guggenheim. I took a peek at what’s going on in New York and was shocked by how many Broadway shows they have tickets to! They also have relationships with hotels + car rental services like Hertz and will waive the young driver fee for people under 25. There are also no fees for an additional driver.
Last but not least, they offer great travel assistance for planning and protection. Impressive, right? I got a year of AAA membership for only $30. The ticket discounts make the membership itself worthwhile enough; but there are tons of other great perks – go here to find out more and sign up! The current exhibition, Artistic License, (up until Jan 12!) is actually the museum’s first-ever artist-curated exhibit! The museum enlisted the help of artists Cai Guo-Qiang, Paul Chan, Jenny Holzer, Julie Mehretu, Richard Prince, and Carrie Mae Weems (all of whom have had solo shows at the museum) to curate an exhibition dedicated to celebrating the museum’s sixty years – and extensive collection of modern art.
The exhibit features nearly 300 paintings, sculptures, and other works – some of which have never been seen before!

I’ve never been to New York but it’s on my bucket list and that museum is definitely a place I’d love to visit, it seems awesome. I think in my country we have something similar to AAA but not nearly with the same perks.

Oh my gosh. This is my first time commenting because I am so passionate about AAA. I’ve had it since I started driving as a teenager. And used the roadside assistance. It was so good as a college student who lived out of state. And the great thing about your membership is that it follows you and not the car. So you could be a passenger in a friend’s car and get a flat and because you have AAA they will come change your friends tire. Also I’ve gotten discounts on eyeglasses and eye doctor visits that were a better. discount than insurance provided. So good! So cheap! So worth it! I sound like I’m in a cult!!
