Charleston Apartment: The Guest Room

Having a second bedroom has been such a game-changer. It is of course so nice to have a separate room for guests, and it’s great having a designated work place (even though I end up working at the kitchen island half the time). In my old apartment, my computer and desk were in the middle of the living space which is fine but I like having it tucked away so that when I’m not working I am not thinking about work.

We had a lot of fun working on this room. I already knew that I really wanted this bed (I had wanted it back in Brooklyn for my bed but it didn’t work with the room), and Erin worked her magic – focusing the room on my Slim Aarons photo (I just love her), and giving the room a really fun, chic vibe. We used my existing nightstands (still available) from my Brooklyn apartment and I bought different nightstands for my room… I love how they look with these rattan lamps.

This room is eclectic and fun – without going overboard… I’m so happy with how it turned out.

PS – the rest of my apartment and the primary bedroom!

Do you (eh or your guests ) wish the bed had an upholstered back? I’ve been drooling over that bed for a couple years and getting close to pulling the trigger, but keep going back and forth on this one or the upholstered version

    • Not really – at least, I haven’t gotten any complaints.. maybe they wish I did but aren’t saying anything. I think if I were getting it for my room I would have done the upholstered back but there are four pillows so it’s still super comfy against the wall and guests aren’t typically staying in bed for a long time reading, etc. I like the way this one looks better which is why I picked it.

I have this exact bed, and not having an upholstered back hasn’t affected my sleep at all (but I also only use the bed for sleep, not lounging around). This thing is incredibly sturdy and well-made and the delivery people from Room and Board are serious professionals. If you’re on the fence, I say go for it!

love, love, love room & board – we have this bed in our 2nd guest room and no complaints either. The cross bars are well placed if people want to sit up and read and we have 2 layers of pillows as well. I will say i am hands down a look over function person and the look is so good! 🙂

  7. Very important question: where do you store papers?? I had a desk like that but it drove me nuts because there was no storage.

    • I have a file box with hanging folders. I moved it for the photos but it’s usually next to or under the desk. I try not to hang onto too much paper though!

Beautiful room! I didn’t see the desk linked. I’m looking for something similar.
