My Favorite Products for Dry or Damaged Hair

I could not be more excited to partner with Briogeo this winter. I have been a big fan of the brand for some time now (their scalp revival scrub has become one of my holy grails, it gets your hair/scalp so clean and smells exactly like a Girl Scout thin mint cookie!). And as a dry haired girl I love their hair masks, too. And their founder, Nancy Twine is amazing: she’s the first Black woman to launch a line at Sephora (today, Briogeo is one of Sephora’s fastest growing beauty brands!).

She began her career at Goldman Sachs but after experiencing personal tragedy (she lost her mother in a car incident) she wanted to find more meaning in her career. She went out on her own to create Briogeo, which drew inspiration from the homemade hair treatments she used to make with her mom (I love that, as I did the same thing as a kid). If you want to know more about her story, I can’t recommend this episode of How I Built This enough! The bits about being a Black woman pitching hair care products to white male investors was particularly interesting.

I love how inclusive the brand is: from day one, it’s been Nancy’s mission to create products that are clean and natural with solutions for every hair type, need, ethnicity, background, and person.

Today I am reviewing Briogeo’s Don’t Despair, Repair! line. And while this is a sponsored post, please note that all opinions are my own and if you have hair that is like mine (thick and wavy, erring on the dry side) I truly cannot recommend these products enough. ALSO, a code: Now through 3/1 take 20% off sitewide at Briogeo with code stripe – after 3/1 it goes down to 15%.

The Don’t Despair, Repair! line is created for those of us who need moisture and repair (and in this situation are maybe a little or a lot overdue for a visit to the salon). And it’s 100% clean: no sulfates, silicones, parabens, ETC. They’ve had a shampoo and mask for a long time but the conditioner is brand new.

I wash my hair 3x a week. Twice a week I will use the conditioner, and once a week I’ll use the mask. There’s also the oil which I apply to my ends right out of the shower.

This is the best shampoo for dry hair.

It is sulfate free (very important to me as I have a keratin treatment). I have had a really hard time finding a shampoo that gets my hair really clean (I need that, as I do use dry shampoo!) without drying it out. This is that magical shampoo that does both. Also not important but I like how big the bottle is – it lasts a long time!

I was already a big fan of the deep conditioning mask.

It helps to strengthen the hair and protect against future breakage. After shampooing and rinsing, I’ll leave this on for ten minutes while I shave my legs, exfoliate, etc etc. It contains rosehip oil (provides fatty acids to help maintain hair hydration and control frizz), algae extract (nourishes and strengthens hair while also protecting the scalp), and B-vitamins which improve the texture of the hair, adding body and sheen. B-vitamins are also great for restoring nourishment to damaged hair.

briogeo conditioner review

The conditioner is brand new and is such a welcome addition to the line.

I love hair masks but only really need them once a week. This is rich and hydrating but lighter than a hair mask, and it’s meant to extend the benefits of the mask… keeping strands nourished and moisturized. Fun fact: It’s been clinically proven to decrease hair breakage after two uses! Just two!

We talked about how Briogeo’s products are clean and natural and all the things they DON’T contain, but here are some of the key ingredients of the conditioner!

  • Micro-encapsulated Argan Oil: repairs damage to the hair cuticle for stronger, healthier hair
  • Sodium PCA: a powerful humectant that locks in moisture for added hydration

briogeo strengthening treatment oil

The strengthening treatment oil is fantastic for smoothing and maximizing shine.

You only need a few drops. I like to apply it right after I shower and towel dry my hair, but if I notice my hair getting frizzy mid-day, I’ll rub a few drops between my palms and then take my hands through the bottom half of my hair.briogeo review

Not from briogeo but the Drybar sealant spray works better then a keratin treatment for me (dry frizzy bleached hair ) and is much cheaper!

I just have to thank you for being the blogger (and podcaster) whose recommendations I 100% trust the most! Everything I have ever tried that you have recommended (sponsored or not) has been great, from the Bader to nightgown dresses and probably the luvscrub that is currently on its way to me. Excited to try this conditioner now too as it’s so hard to find clean hair care that actually moisturizes well. Thanks for being so trustworthy with your recs!

Thanks for introducing me to this brand, Grace!! I took the hair quiz and just ordered the scalp scrub, their dry shampoo (I’m super loyal to my cheap drugstore Batiste but have been searching for a clean alt!) and their volumizing root powder. My hair issue is more oiliness than dryness and I tend to have a ton of product buildup so I’m excited to try these! Appreciate your great recommendations always 🙂

Thank you for your review and discount code! I ordered their boar hair brush (I always love trying new brushes and this one is vegan)! and also their fragrance free line which I am very excited about. I am always trying to find haircare that I love without fragrance and so far do not have a favorite so hoping this will be my new holy grail!

  10. Here’s a tip for curlies who may have super fine or thin hair like me. I’ve been using the Breogeo Curl Custard for about 6 months but only to refresh my curls on day 2 or 3 after wash day. I use about an almond size amount of curl custard and thin it out by mixing it with an equal amount of water, then apply with prayer hands to my lengths of slightly dampened hair. This is the only way this product works for me (it’s way too heavy for wash day styling) but it’s holy grail for moisturizing frizz on day 2 or 3 hair, lining up my curls, and adding super moisture.

Grace – came back to this post to comment – I’ve been using Briogeo scalp scrub and matching conditioner for a few years now. I tried the Don’t Despair, Repair mask at your recommendation, but I caved and tried the full Don’t Despair line (shampoo and conditioner) based on this post and your IG. I’ve only used them once, but WOW! I have curly hair but let it just air dry without gel or anything, and it looks so healthy with loose curls/waves. I didn’t think I needed something for particularly dry hair, but apparently i do. THANK YOU!
