A Facial for Your Scalp!

A Facial for Your Scalp

I’m really excited to team up with Briogeo again! Last month I reviewed their (amazing) Don’t Despair, Repair line which is AMAZING  for dry, damaged hair (or if you’re like me and it had been a while since your last trim). Today’s post is all about scalp health.

A Facial for Your Scalp!

To be honest, I hadn’t really thought very much about scalp health until working with Briogeo. I learned a lot from them with this project, which was really cool, and I’m very excited to share what I learned from them with you today. I personally get dry scalp in the winter, and always struggle with dry shampoo buildup, so I’ve loved the brand’s scalp revival scrub for a really long time. Any time my scalp is feeling dry or itchy… or like I’d been hitting the dry shampoo maybe a little bit too hard, this is my go-to. But scalp health goes so much deeper than that!

If you follow me on Instagram, you already know that last night I teased these products with a little at-home tutorial video (you can watch it here). Today, I wanted to go a little deeper and talk about the WHY behind these products, and why they work so well.

Briogeo views scalp care as an extension of your skincare routine, which I LOVE. A healthy scalp is the foundation for healthy hair. And just like with your skincare, the two biggest keys are exfoliation and hydration. You don’t need to do these things every time you wash your hair (I mean who has the time!) BUT once a week, or even every two weeks, it’s a good idea AND while you are doing it you can also multi-mask (aka apply a hydrating mask like the Don’t Despair, Repair mask to your ends!).

Briogeo Scalp Revival charcoal + tea tree cooling hydration scalp mask

The first product we need to talk about is the brand new Briogeo Scalp Revival charcoal + tea tree cooling hydration scalp mask.

You guys. This mask!

So this is actually the second step (you will want to use the scalp scrub first and then this afterward) but I wanted to talk about it first as it’s brand new and SO wonderful. It launched yesterday but I’ve had about a month to use it and really love it. I don’t think I’d ever used a scalp mask before this and I have to tell you, I love it. It feels SO good on the scalp – minty and tingly and hydrating (but don’t worry – it rinses out and will not leave your roots greasy).

This mask is ultra soothing. It’s perfect for an itchy, irritated, flaky scalp and delivers a boost of instant cooling (the formula contains a refreshing combination of tea tree, peppermint, and spearmint oils) as it hydrates and restores moisture to the scalp (after exfoliation) with hyaluronic acid and aloe vera.

After exfoliating, I apply this all over my scalp and let it sit for a full ten minutes. As I do this, I put the don’t despair, repair mask on my ends.

Briogeo charcoal + coconut oil micro-exfoliating shampoo

The Briogeo Scalp Revival charcoal + coconut oil micro-exfoliating shampoo is, as you probably know by now, a holy grail favorite.

It’s not just me: it’s one of Briogeo’s top sellers. I wrote a big blog post about it earlier this summer but it’s the absolute best for giving your scalp a deeeep cleanse if it’s feeling itchy or dry or you’ve used too much dry shampoo and need to get it good and clean. Doesn’t hurt that it smells EXACTLY like a Girl Scout Thin Mint cookie too. It does an amazing job gently exfoliating the scalp and then Binchotin Charcoal detoxifies the hair and scalp by absorbing impurities such as oil, dirt, sebum, and product build-up

(I also want to note that this, like all of Briogeo’s products, is sulfate-free so if you have a keratin treatment or color-treat your hair, it should be totally safe to use!).

scalp massager tool

And then there is this handy tool.

I like to use this with both the scrub and the mask as a) it feels really good but b) it helps to spread both products over the scalp. A scalp massager like this one is a really helpful tool for stimulating the scalp and creating more blood flow to the follicles.

Briogeo Revival charcoal + tea tree scalp treatment

I really love the Briogeo Scalp Revival charcoal + tea tree scalp treatment!

Any time my scalp feels itchy I’ve been reaching for this serum to provide it with a little bit of relief. The treatment helps to improve hydration of the scalp for up to 8 hours and contains Binchotan charcoal to draw out buildup and impurities as that same blend of peppermint, spearmint, and tea tree oils soothes irritation and inflammation.

After exfoliating and masking, part clean and conditioned hair into damp sections. Apply 1-2 drops to each partition, and then massage into your scalp. Don’t rinse it out (it’s not greasy at all!). You can also use it before bed as a treatment, or anytime during the day if your scalp is feeling itchy!

briogeo biotin + charcoal dry shampoo

Last but not least is Briogeo’s Scalp Revival biotin + charcoal dry shampoo.

I love that this product is non-aerosol which means it’s free of all of the bad stuff and also good for the environment. It contains a complex of clay, tapioca, and rice starches to absorb excess oil and extend the life of your style between washes. It also contains that Binchotan charcoal to draw out impurities and buildup, and witch hazel + bamboo extracts to help balance future oil production.

Thanks Grace! I struggle between scalp health (where I hear more frequent washing is better) and hair health (where I hear less frequent washing is better)…Trying to find the right balance and products.
